Elite designation recognizes Aptima among only ~220 certified companies out of ~88,000 in the defense industrial base

Woburn, MA – August 25, 2025 — Aptima, Inc., a leader in human-centered engineering and performance optimization, today announced that it has successfully achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2. This significant milestone places Aptima among an elite group of approximately 220 companies—out of more than 88,000 organizations in the defense industrial base (DIB)—that have completed the rigorous certification process.

CMMC is the Department of Defense’s unified standard to ensure contractors meet robust cybersecurity practices. Level 2 certification validates that Aptima has implemented advanced safeguards and policies in alignment with federal requirements, ensuring the company’s continued eligibility to perform on defense contracts requiring heightened cybersecurity protections.

Companies that achieve CMMC Level 2 certification are typically those that provide critical technologies, products, and services to the Department of Defense. Certification demonstrates their ability to protect sensitive information from advanced cyber threats. By meeting this standard, companies not only reinforce their commitment to national security but also strengthen their position as trusted partners within the defense supply chain.

“Even though the defense industrial base is awaiting the final CMMC rule to be issued by the federal government later this year, Aptima made the decision to proactively pursue certification now,” said Mike Garrity, CEO of Aptima, Inc. “As one of only a small fraction of companies to reach this level, we are proud to set the standard for security within the defense industrial base and to assure our partners and customers that their trust in Aptima is well-placed.”

Once codified, the rule will allow CMMC requirements to be attached to new or modified contracts in a phased rollout beginning in 2026 and becoming universal across the DIB by 2027. By completing certification early, Aptima is not only ahead of the curve but also ensuring uninterrupted eligibility and demonstrating to its customers that the company is fully prepared for the cybersecurity requirements of the future.

This certification underscores Aptima’s ongoing dedication to excellence in supporting the Department of Defense and other federal agencies with innovative solutions that enhance human performance, readiness, and mission success.
